Why I do what I do:)

My life is a book that only a few people have read. I continue to add chapters and adventures to get the most out of life. When I was 17 years old, I joined the Marine Corps and spent eight incredible years in different positions. I left the military with an adventure bug to see the world as much as possible. I spent the next 13 years traveling the world with my wife and two kids. I currently live in Denmark. I will be moving back to Washington, DC, 2021.

I grew up in a small county on the outskirts of Valdosta, GA. Growing up in this remote town in the 80s and 90s was one of the crucial building blocks that warped my life into what it is today. We had a small house in the country with farms all around us. My brother and I would go on daily adventures in the woods or cornfields and let our imagination run wild. I would often head out into the woods and let my mind wander to some distant war that time forgot. I believe that during this time, I knew that I was going to join the military.
My parents made life as a child entertaining.  We would always go to Disney World and St. Augustine beach every summer.  We owned a camper, and looking back at those days where we ate pigs in a blanket meal and played Wiffle ball on the beach were the best days of my life.
High school was fun, and playing baseball and basketball helped the time fly by.  I wasn't into school at the time and couldn't wait to get back to playing sports or build something in the woods.
When I was 16 years old, I was invited to a party that my work friends were throwing. There were going to be kids from other schools and one girl in particular that I saw on a couple of occasions. I went in the hopes of striking up a conversation and maybe asking her out if possible. The party was fun, but as the night drew to an end, I was asked to stay behind and hang out. There were about 15 of us and luckily the girl that I liked was one of them. We sat around in a circle and starting talking about what we were going to do after high school. One by one, the kids said their peace, and I realized that they all were saying the same thing. It went like this: First college, then marriage (to the high school sweetheart), work (at the local something or other), kids, dog, house (that they probably drove past every day and admired), and last always stay in touch with friends from school. Of course, everyone was very supportive and said that that sounding like a dream or something. I was surprised that the girl that I liked said the same thing. When it finally came to me to tell my plans, I froze; I decided to say what everyone else said and got a huge smile in return from the girl. As I left the house, the girl came up to me and wanted to know if I wanted to hang out again with her friends next week. I said yes and got a kiss in return. As I was driving home, I realized that I wanted to get out of the town as fast as I could and that I was going to join the military as soon as I graduated. I needed to do something out of the ordinary. I wanted to go on a real adventure and experience things that only a few people have experienced. I also wanted to be around people that thought like me. I never saw those kids again or the girl. I lost interest in that town after that party. I was ready to test myself for whatever life had in store.
